La Fille Renne (iel) est un·e photographe, réalisateurice et tatoueureuse lyonnais·e. Iel est passionné·e par l’argentique, l’écologie, l’ostéologie, l’Arctique et l’intime.
Iel réalise notamment des courts-métrages en argentique seul·e et en collectif avec Laure Giappiconi et Élisa Monteil, sur l’écologie ou la queerness et la sexualité. Leurs films ont été projetés dans de nombreux festivals à travers le monde, notamment Sundance, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Norwegian Short Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, Go Short, Les Filministes, RIDM, Leiden Shorts, Côté Court, Lago Film Fest, etc.
Son film Chasing Whales a remporté le prix du meilleur documentaire au Starling Film Festival et a été nominé pour le prix du meilleur court-métrage au Green Film Network Award. Le film Nos Fins Joyeuses, co-réalisé avec Levon Babayan, a également remporté des prix au XPOSED Queer Film Festival (Berlin), One Fluid Night LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (Londres) et Porn Film Festival Vienna.
Nourri·e par ses études d’écologie et d’archéozoologie, iel documente au fur et à mesure de ses voyages des lieux peu anthropisés, comme les zones arctiques et subarctiques. L’enjeu de valorisation de ces espaces et écosystèmes, premiers à souffrir du réchauffement climatique, est primordial. Iel s’intéresse également aux liens entre humains et animaux dans les cultures côtières dans le nord de l’Europe et aux traditions spécifiques à ces cultures.
Son travail s’articule également autour de la documentation et la représentation des corps, personnes et sexualités non normé·e·s. Cette approche est fondamentale pour lutter contre les violences discriminantes, les violences sexuelles et également offrir de meilleures chances aux jeunes générations de se trouver représenté·e. Dans Polysème Magazine, qu’iel a co-fondé avec Raphaëla Icguane, iel a signé des articles qui tendant également à visibiliser des trajectoires de vie et des victimes que l’Histoire – écrite par les hommes cisgenres – silencie et fait tomber dans l’oubli.
L’expérimentation a également une belle place dans son travail photographique et filmique, qu’il s’agisse de tester diverses pellicules et boîtiers (sujet sur lequel iel a publié le livre Review argentique), des techniques affectant la chimie des pellicules en amont de la prise de vue, ou encore de trouver des chimies permettant de développer des pellicules datant du milieu du XXème siècle.
Peaux, paysages et expérimentations chimiques se mêlent ainsi au gré des prises de vues et des projets politiques.

La Fille Renne (they/them) is a photographer, filmmaker and tattoo artist from Lyon (France). They are passionate about analog photography, ecology, osteology, the Arctic and intimacy.
They direct short movies on film alone and in a collective with Laure Giappiconi and Elisa Monteil about ecology or queerness and sexuality. Their films have been screened at numerous festivals around the world, including Sundance, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Norwegian Short Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, Go Short, Les Filministes, RIDM, Leiden Shorts, Côté Court, Lago Film Fest, etc.

Nourished by their training in ecology and zooarchaeology, they have been documenting sparsely populated places, such as polar and subpolar areas. The challenge of highlighting these areas and ecosystems, the first to suffer from global warming, is essential. They are also interested in the relations between humans and animals in the coastal cultures of northern Europe, and in the traditions specific to these cultures.
Their work also focuses on documenting and representing non-normative bodies, people and sexualities. This approach is fundamental to fight against discriminatory violence and sexual violence, as well as giving younger generations a better chance of being represented. In Polysème Magazine, which they co-founded with Raphaëla Icguane, they wrote papers that also tend to make visible life trajectories and victims that history – written by cisgender men – silences and makes fall into oblivion.
Experimentation also has a great place in their photographic and cinematographic work, like testing various films and cameras (a subject on which they published the book Review argentique), techniques affecting the chemistry of films before processing, or even finding chemistries that allow them to process films from the middle of the 20th century.
Skins, landscapes and chemical experimentations are thus combined in shootings and political projects.
